When I was still working as a tour guide I thought that it would be very beneficial to wear those shoes with a rounded sole that are supposed to help strengthening your posture, build muscles in places you’ve never heard of and basically miraculously shape the most beautiful butt.
Wouldn’t it be nice, I thought, to kill two birds with one stone and actually use my walking job for myself as well? In the peak times I walked up to 16km a day! So I bought these shoes and I thought that they were pretty ugly and that they wouldn’t go with a lot of my clothes. I looked like wearing two boats. But for the sake of my ever aching lower back and my soon-to-be-gorgeous butt I wore them almost daily and I have to admit: It worked. The first day I had the worst muscle hangover I’ve ever had and immediately those ugly shoes and I became good friends.
The concept of those shoes, which are offered by various brands, is easy: the soft, rounded sole creates a wobbly surface which your body has to balance out. The balancing out part is done by those tiny muscles linked to the big ones and this helps strengthening your locomotory system which results in shaping up. Yay, it’s that easy!
The hard part is looking like a 3rd grader and feeling like one, too. The comments I got from friends, family and strangers were not very encouraging. And the fact that I was limited to one pair of pants and to the seasons spring and autumn (damn, it got warm in them) basically led to our break-up. We weren’t friends anymore, wobbly shoes and me just didn’t fit. And the healthiest for your feet is walking barefoot anyway.
